We are thrilled to announce that a wine from Fairmile Vineyard has been officially recognised as Oxfordshire’s finest – and therefore one of the UK’s too.
Decanter’s distinguished panel of 243 leading wine experts, including 20 Master Sommeliers and 61 Masters of Wine from 33 countries, blind-tasted 18,143 wines from 57 countries - and have just announced their verdict. The UK overall achieved its highest medal count yet, with a predictably strong showing from the South of England.
Fairmile Vineyard’s Classic Cuvée received a Silver medal, with 92points/100, and our Blanc de Blancs 2017, entered into a competition for the first time, received a Bronze medal, with 88points/100.
You can read the full results on all 18,143 wines at Decanter.com.
Owner Jan Mirkowski stated: “Anthea and I were stunned when Decanter gave Fairmile’s very first Classic Cuvée its highest rating of any English sparkling wine the year after its 2018 launch. Now, to be able to stand scrutiny against more than 18,000 wines globally, shows that Fairmile is producing world-class wine at Henley on Thames”.

Crop report
Whilst people were puzzled to learn that seemingly dull, grey May 2024 was the warmest May on record, dense night-time clouds acted as an insulating blanket to hold warmth in. Most folk probably didn’t realise that, whilst asleep, outside temperatures were 1.2°C higher than the previous May record. Our vines escaped any frosts, and are approximately three weeks ahead of their normal growth cycle.
The significance of this is that the grapes now face a long summer of ripening, with the potential for yet another award-winning crop!
Raise your glasses to 2024!
